Jasper Newton Daniel, aka “Jack”, was born in Tennessee in 1850. He began working for Daniel Houston Call, a Lutheran father who owned a small whiskey distillery, at a young age. With the War of Secession, in 1861, Dan Call handed the business over to Jack who was so young at the time that he gained the nickname: “the boy distiller“. This is how the “Jack Daniel Distillery” was born, the oldest distillery still in business in the USA and that will soon be giving birth to its famous whiskey in the first Square Bottle, the unmistakable-shaped bottle.

First made in a distillery in the village of Koskenkorva in Finland and then transported to a plant in the village of Rajamaki, about 45 kilometres north of Helsinki, where the distillate is mixed with glacial water, flavoured and bottled. The Finland brand was founded by Alko, the Finnish state-owned liquor company, in 1970. A year later, the brand became the first Scandinavian vodka to be sold in the United States.

The art of making this precious bourbon started in the historic Woodford Reserve Distillery, founded by Elijah Pepper in 1812 and still in business. One of the oldest bourbon distilleries in America, considered by many as the birthplace of bourbon. In fact, it was here that, in 1838, Dr. James Crow improved the “Sour Mash” process that continues to be used in the production of bourbon today, thus adding a historical value to the distillery.
